Whether you have been to physical therapy before or not, you probably have a few questions for us before your visit. We’d like to be able to answer any you might have before you even come in so here is a list of our most frequently asked questions. Can I use my FSA/HSA?
Absolutely. Depending on your insurance benefits it may be more beneficial to use your FSA rather than your insurance. If you’re not sure which is better, just ask us and we’ll be happy to try and clear it up.
What Should I Wear?
If your appointment is for your neck or shoulder, try to wear loose fitting clothes or tank tops so that we are able to see both. If you are coming in for your low back or any lower body injury then shorts or loose fitting pants that roll up would be ideal. Athletic shoes would also be best for any low back or lower body injury. We try to have backup options of shorts, t shirts and tank tops on hand in case you forget! We also have a full locker room and showers available if you need either.
How long will my appointment be?
Your appointment will last approximately 50 minutes but you should plan for about an hour to handle any questions or scheduling at the end.
Are you on time?
Almost always. If we’re not, something has gone wrong.
What will happen on the first visit?
The most important thing that will happen on your first visit is you and your therapist will develop a plan for how to reach your goals. Your therapist will give you an accurate diagnosis and likely begin treatment on that very same day. To reach that diagnosis, your therapist will go through a thorough history with you, assess your strength, range of motion, posture and any other tests that might give us more information. Your expert physical therapist will then be able to give you an accurate diagnosis as well as a detailed plan of how we are going to reach your goals. You should be able to have all your questions answered on that first day.
How do I get the most out of this visit?
The best way to get the most out of this visit is to come in with a good understanding of what you’d like to achieve. We always hear “I want to get out of pain” and trust us, we want you out of pain as well. But what we really want to know is how does your pain affect your day or your life. A good way to answer that question is to think “How would my life be different if I didn’t have this pain?” That will let you and your therapist come up with really meaningful goals for you.
How will this be different than any other physical therapy session I’ve had?
Great question, we’re glad you asked! This visit will be totally focused on you and your goals. If you want to get back to CrossFit and have been told not to then we will find a way. If you want to continue running but have knee pain, we will find a way. If you are afraid to be more active because of back pain, we will come up with a plan to get you more active. All of our visits are one on one with your physical therapist and that allows us to focus on your goals and find a solution to get you to where you want to be.
